right sided jaw pain

I don't know if this is TMJ or not. For the past two days, I have trouble opening my mouth to eat, mainly with pain on the right side. When I press on face just below my teeth it is extremly painful. I have had TMJ in the past, so I tried shifting my jaw from side to side to check for clicking. I can't do that because of extreme pain. It throbs all the time, and is very distracting.  And of course it is the weekend, so can't call my dentist. Would like to have your thoughts on what this might be. I would appreciate your input. Thank you.

It does seem like it may be a TMJ problem since the TMJ contributes to opening and closing of the mouth and that you aren't able to do.  Have you tried to see if its a muscular problem?  Attempt to place warm towels on the right side and stretch it out if possible throughout the day, but gently though.  Also, take some anti-inflammatories such as Tylenol or Motrin/Ibuprofen (or what is safe for you since I'm not aware of your medical health history).

Otherwise, go see your dentist as soon as possible to get it thoroughly evaluated.
