root canal pain and tmj

Can anybody help me! I have been in pain since I started root canal treatment 2months ago! At the moment I have just paid 350 pounds (i had to borrow this money) and the pain is worse now than what it was before! I have been back to the dentist 10 times, first he said that the root was still there so he treid again, then second it was still there again,third had my tooth grinded down, 4th infection was back gave me antibiotics, then had another go , after a few visits iam still in pain, the dentist suggest I have a mouth guard to protect my teeth wich may be causing the pain( i also have tmj,though this doesnt feel like that sort of pain!) this will cost me 200 pounds again, I wanted to take the tooth out but dentist said that the tooth was fine(although i did not get xray on my last visits) , I dont know what to do .if i buy the mouth guard ,it might not fit if I eventally need the tooth out! and I dont have enough money to experiment. please can anyone advice me on this!
