salivary gland problem after wisdom tooth extraction

by charbaby, Feb 19, 2009 03:11PM
I had my wisdom tooth cut out by a oral surgeon and within a day i had swelling and pain under my tounge and neck. I I saw my doctor and he said it was a salivary gland problem and put me on antibiotics. Could having my wisdom tooth out cause this problem? I was not given any antibiotics at the time of extraction.

It doesn't sound likely to me that a salivary gland problem and a wisdom tooth extraction are related.  Its probably coincidental that it happened but you can always seek a second opinion on the matter and get an examination of the area as well.  Usually infections don't occur that rapidly and usually swell/spread in about 3 days.
