severe upper jaw pain

I was in two weeks ago to have 2 teeth prepped and temporary crowns placed.  They are my top back two molars (not the wisdom tooth).  One of these two teeth had a root canal this fall and had 4 roots.  I have had such severe throbbing pain in my upper jaw it is unbearable.  The pain feels like it's between the teeth, but shoots to my temple, around my eye, and below my ear.  I went back to my dentist this past week, and he removed one of the temporary crowns (the one that had the root canal), cleaned/dug around it, and replaced the temporary crown.  He took an x-ray and said things looked ok.  If I let the Tylenol or Motrin wear off, and don't stay on top of it...the pain is unmanageable and unbearable!  My dentist said I need to go back and see the endodontist that did the root canal...but I don't know what he'll do...?  I have never had pain like this before.  It wakes me out of a dead sleep if I don't set my alarm to remember to take something for the pain.  The crowns are fit fine...there are no high spots, or anything like this.  

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Quality of throbbing pain suggests neurovascular origin. Root canaled tooth generally does'nt provoke throbbing pain, in stead,  it yields dull , aching, pressure pain. Throbbing pain is commonly associated with pulpal origin. Seeing an endodontist to evaluate other vital tooth is advised.

I would really be interested to know what was done for your teeth...And was your pain relieved?
