I have notice a white patch of enlarged or swollen papillae on the back of tongue near the cumulative papillae and was wondering what could this be and what could be the cause this ?
Now I have been eating citrus fruits and veggie all week which includes pineapple so could this have inflamed the Papillae?
Consuming too hot, spicy or salty food, bacterial infection in the tongue, sores on mouth, vitamin deficiencies, fungal infections of the mouth all can lead to swollen and inflamed papillae. Maintain oral hygiene. Gargling with lukewarm saline water may help. Eating yoghurt may help in soothing the inflammation and in yeast infections. The exact treatment will depend on the cause. If there is any infection you may need antibiotics and antihistamines to reduce swelling. See a doctor.
Best wishes and luck!
