Is it a severe profusing blood such as a new cut or is it just some blood mixed with his saliva.  If its just some blood mixed with his saliva, you can just apply pressure to the area to help with the bleeding.  Your dentist probably gave you some gauze to apply pressure.  Just placed it in there and have your son bite down for 20-30 mins if it looks like its bleeding.  If it is profuse bleeding, then you should call your dentist in regards to the situation.
