thrush or long taste buds?

by pray_for_a_negative, Dec 19, 2008 01:21PM
For the past 3 months I have notcied that my tongue is extremely white particularly after eating something.  I can bursh the white coating off but it eventually comes back.  It sort of looks like each individual papillae or tast bud is covered with white plaque.  i have sone some research on thrush and it doesnt quite look like the pictures i have seen and there is no white stuff on the sides of the tongue.  At times the tongue does appear to have a yellowish tint to it.

I went to my family doctor and he scrapped my tongue but said there was no indication of thrush.  I did however brush my tongue before going in so i'm not sure if i may have ruined the results.  Do you think this is the case?

I read online that you can spit in a cup of water when you first wake up in the morning to do a self test for thrush and wait 30 min to see if you have stringy spit at the top or a pile of white spit on the bottom.  after doing this I my results came out showing I had it but i dont know how accurate ths really is.

- Does this sound like thrush to you or how can you tell if you have it?
- Do you think I threw off the results of my test at the doctors office by brushing my tongue ahead of time?

Thank you for your time and help

Your descriptions are not consistent with classical presentation of thrush. Seeing an oral pathologist or oral medicine specialist to establish final diagnosis is advised.
