tmj displaced disk

tmj displaced disk

Hello,
Ive been suffering with severe neck pain, headaches and shoulder pain for some time now. At first I thought it was migraine related or postural but I then realised that the pain began soon after my wisdom teeth were extracted and I do have jaw/facial pain so thought to ask for a dental MRI.
The scan results show that I have a anteriorly displaced disk to my left tmj joint. The dentist has told me that there is nothing that can be done as surgery can make the problem worse so he has given me diazepam to take at night (this hasnt helped). My question is -

1. Could all this pain really be from a disk in my jaw?

2. Is there ANYTHING I can do myself to try and fix the problem?
