tooth infection

If a tooth becomes infected how and in what ways can it effect the rest of your body health? Does it matter or make any differnce if the infection goes on for over a year?

An infected tooth can spread through underlying tissue and kill you. A friend of mine got necrotising fasciitis because of a bad tooth; the hospital had to put him in an induced coma for over a month to save his life. He was lucky; the "flesh-eater" bacteria did not spread as rapidly as in most cases so he lost very little flesh.
Most state and federal insurance no longer covers tooth estraction, (not considered a necessary or medical expense for adults), which is ridiculous, considering the cost paid by the same agencies for the usual complications of bad teeth, including infections of internal organs, sepsis, heart disease, stroke, and very lengthy hospital stays like the one I described above, which probably ran up a bill close to a million dollars. The "denied" extraction would have cost the state about $200.
But don't wait until you have insurance; beg, borrow, lie, or steal the money if you must, and have the abcessed tooth pulled. Call state agencies for recommendations of a dental surgeons who offers rates on a sliding scale. It's your life. A bad tooth can and probably will shorten it , usually after causing you considerable misery.

An "immune booster" is something that activates the immune response.  When it first became a popular treatment, I read that oil of Oregano had been shown in a European study to retard the growth of the cold virus in a lab; however, I haven't seen any research published, since, which might mean it wasn't repeatable.  Also, that would not make it a "booster". I use it when I have a cold, anyway, along with a variety of other alternative treatments.  To date, I have not avoided getting a sinus infection along with a cold.  When left untreated in favor of natural "interventions", the sinus infections have become debilitating.

Read here regarding science vs popularity in treatments:  sciencebasedmedicine. org/index.php/oil-of-oregano/

Humans had all of these herbal and natural treatments long before the advent of modern medicine.  I think the rapid extension of life expectancy after the invention of antibiotics should say something important about the efficacy of the treatments which existed before.

Thanks for all the insight. I don't eat sweets. I do believe in herbs and in normal conditions yes this would help. But I am dealing with some pretty serious issues here. Please read my comment to kayla 276 perhaps you might understand why I got antibiotics to help for now. Sorry that I did'nt get back to you right away. Thanks for comments.

I quess having the tooth pulled was best as they tell me with this left knee that I could even end up lossing my leg if an infection spread to it and that scares me as I have been fighting since 2005 to not lose this leg. As it is I have lost over 50% use of it and already suffered an infection in it after surgery. I also had hammertoe surgery a year ago which got badly infected and nearly  lost a foot.            Quess with all this stuff going on its easy not to even think of a tooth infection. But I did think so I went to a dentist to have everything checked out and any work done that was needed. How was I to know he would screw up and be the one responsible for another infection as he filled the tooth to deeply causing pressure on nerves which in turn caused an infection. Its just I have been in so much pain and fighting these other infections so sick in bed all summer unable to get up much out on pain pills and fevers wondering if I'd ever get up again. So now I am on antibiotics to try and care for the tooth infection but at same time fighting inflammed thyroid and constant knee pain, I have been seeing doctors for it all for along time its none of it easy. Thanks for the help.

Infection from a tooth can affect the rest of your body.  I already experienced it.

I had an infected tooth under a crown and it made me tired all the time.
I think it is because your body is trying to fight off the infection.

It was deteriorating the bone beside the tooth and breaking it down.  If I didn't have it pulled, it could have affected the tooth behind it possibly is what I was told. The tooth underneath the crown was fractured and not worth saving. I had to have a bone graft done where the bone deteriorated.

From the fracture in the tooth, it allows bacteria to enter down into other parts. I was told that if left alone infection can reach other body organs and infect them also.

What is so bad about the situation is the dentist who put the original crown on, knew there was a fracture when he put the crown on in 2005.   Why not just save me some money and tell me there was a fracture and this could happen. Instead he let it go until a specialist found my problem.

I realize they can put crowns over fractured teeth, but I think it would have been in my best interest not to have done it and to just have it pulled; Instead, he cost me more money down the road.  Which his website states he will not do.

Yes, do not use peroxide on your teeth is what have been told also.

If you can feel the infection in your tooth, if I were you, I would be doing something right away.

From all that I have experienced with teeth, if it hurts, I'm not waiting for anything.   Any infection in any part of your body is bad.

Anyone who knows they have had a dental infection for a year, and is still running around happily being alive are doing pretty good.  The infection may be there but its not causing problems for now.  If the doctor has repaired the cavity, which can be a hole in the side of the tooth that reaches the dentin, the tooth can go a few more years. Once decay has touched the nerve its only a matter of time.  At which point going to a highly recommended root canaler is recommended.  The most important consideration is to get a crown on teeth before they crack if they are old teeth.

When an infection really hits a person they start getting dizzy and fatiqued, and swelling occurs at the point of infection.  One time in the past at that point, I had an actor from Hollywood tell me to scrub out the wound (it was not dental) with a toothbrush and hydrogen peroxide. That was rediculous as the peroxide is recommended when the wound is fresh, but afterwards kills fresh cells, and does nothing for interior conditions of the blood stream.  As I was new to the jungle I did not know about the acidity of tropical fruits grown in acidic volcanic soil.  People coming from North America to the tropics often get staff infections very soon after arrival. One of the very same bacterias hospitals are totally sterile about.  Honestly I do not know what bacteria are responcible for dental infections, but the remmedy is the same. Boolster the bodies own defences with dark greens and fresh protein.  Eat some sushi or steak tartare and drink eggs for snacks. Do what it takes to win, and if you cannot win surrender.

i will admit i have no clue if these natural treatments will help prevent infections beyond proper brushing and flossing but when and infection already exists proper medical care is a necessity.

Take note;  It is much less expensive and quicker to test natures powers at home before submitting to expensive remedies that dentists can provide.  Oregano tea begins working the moment you begin sipping it and there are no side effects. It is far better to booster natural immune function against infections. Sugar levels in the blood feed infectious bacteria so one has to reduce or eliminate the sweets as much as possible.  The biggest problem people have in the industrial world is a taste for sweet foods. So its not just a matter of this cavity and this infection, but preventing the next one by changing habits.

untreated infections will spread. no amounts of wheat germ, oregano, or cabbage will help. you need antibiotics AND to find the source of the infection and correct it. untreated infections can spread to the adjacent bone and teeth. it usually takes quite awhile but it is possible to spread to other places including your blood. the infection can become horribly painful and swollen. find a dentist that accepts payment plans or care credit. you could try to find a dental school or clinic if you cant afford it but get it treated now!

Dear Fellow Dental Sufferer,
Its not a question of whether a tooth infection will infect other teeth, something I personally have not heard of.  Its a question of what are you doing to cut the infection.
contrary to what people with medical terminology might say, you can do a great deal to undo dental infection.

1  Stop eating sweets of any kind.
2  Make some oregano tea.  Bring pint of water to a boil.  Turn off and place 1 tbsp of dried oregano leaves in the pot.  When cool enough begin sipping. Oregano is herb with greatest antibiotic properties and will lower blood sugar levels.  Its potent taste bu just think of it as drinking a pizza flavored tea.
3  Blend up half a small onion with a long stick of celery in a cup of water.  Its a potent cleanser so drink it slowly.  Ancient Egyptians wrote that onions cure 8000 diseases.
4  Eat lots salads made with a variety of greens along with onions and garlic.
5  WheatGrass juice is loaded with chlorophyl which stimulates red blood cell production and the health of cells. There are claims it can rejuvenate teeth.  Drink a shot in the morning and one in the afternoon, or more if desired.
6  Eat green cabbage all by itself as it satisfies desire for sweets.  Cabbage and broccoli in same vegetable family known for anticarcinogens.  Broccoli is also very desireable to satisfy appetite.

Unless a person goes all out to win their health from dental problems, they don't. Very real change of habits is essential.

Good Luck.
