tooth pain

I went to the Dentist 9 days ago and he drilled out an old filling... and put in a temporary crown. I am still experiencing pain from the tooth and it feels like nerve damage. Is there a chance it will stop or will I need a root canal?

It depends on the type of pain and longevity of it.The nerve of the tooth can be inflamed which can be reversible --gets better or irreversible--the nerve dies. The dentist can check the vitality of the nerve and if the pain persists then it would be necessary to do the rct.
