white bumps on tounge

i have had these little white bumps on the tip of my tounge for a few days...they have came before but always go away after about a week. they are sore and painful , makes eating hard because it feels raw, my older realatives always call them lie bumps. i think thats a wives tale. please help me fig out what they are why they hurt, why they keep returning and what i can do to stop them. it almost feels like i burnt my tounge but that never happened, drinking anything carbonated, any juice, eating anything that has salt or seasoning on it makes it burn worse. just looking ofr some answers please help
