white spots that come and go.

I get these small white spots on the side of my tongue on both sides that come and go for the last 9 months.they dont hurt ever and they will be there for maybe a week then there gone for a week or so then come back.sometimes one side has the spots and the other side doesnt.but the white spots seem to last a week or a little longer then there not there for another week.every time i want the dentist to look at them by the time i get an appt there gone or you can barley see them.my teeth dont rub on the tongue.Do you have any indication on what this could be?

How large are the white spots?  Are they more like patches on your tongue that move around or is it a recurrent white spot that occurs in the same spot but just on and off?  My initial guess is that its geographic tongue.  You can try to google it and see some pictures and see if its similar and read the description more thoroughly.
