Agony getting off Suboxone.

I just posted this on the other forum, but would like to have a doctor's pov.  My son is on day 10 without any meds for his long standing substance problem.  He was on Methadone for years following a broken leg while in the Marine Corps.  He is allergic to regular pain meds so Methadone was used...more recently, in trying to get off that, he was prescribed Suboxone which, after three weeks did not seem to be working..so he went off that..and is suffering with severe withdrawal symptoms..he is under the care of a drug abuse physician who says to tough it out since he can do this here at home.  

We need to know of people who have been successful getting off Methadone and now Suboxone.  Can you help?

I hope someone else on this forum has some experience. Unfortunately I have absolutely no experience and can not give you an opinion.  I do think that toughening it out is not the right thing to do if he is suffering greatly, so I would go back to the treating physician and ask him for relief.

my husband took suboxone to keep from withdrawling from hydrocodone/vicodin that he was addicted to.  when he finished the suboxone yes he had withdrawls because it is a level 3 narcotic.  his withdrawl (withdrawal) symptoms were much easier than it would be with the vicodin withdrawls.  he experienced flu like symptoms (chills, feverish, achiness, sleeplessness, and restless leg syndrome at night, and diarrhea) this lasted for about a week and a half peaking on the seventh day.  I praise God for his recovery, my husband is a wonderful man and I am so proud of him.  It has been a long road but now that he looks back and thinks of what we have been through he hates to even think of doing it again.  God bless all!

i just sucessfully kicked methadone it was the worst experience ever.  sickness lasts for at least 21 days.  suboxen should be shorter and easier
