Alprazolan..... could it be killing me ??

I have been on alprazolan for years . I take 0.25MG 3 times a day . It was the only medication at the time that I could take for my Panic Attacks , that I did not have any side effect to . I am beginning to have outburts of anger , depression , very much anxiety , and my panic attacks are here again .I feel like my blood pressure goes up after I take one and my face gets numb around my mouth and nose , my forehead feels like it is drawing and I get dizzy headed . When I get depressed I am so confussed . This morning I took my Inderal and an hour later I took my alprazolan ,30 minutes later I start feeling the funny feelings . Am I going crazy , is this just in my head ? Please help me :)

Dear Letaine,

Alprazolam (xanax) is a benzodiazepine with a short half-life that has been used in the treatment of anxiety. Alprazolam can cause adverse effects such as drowsiness, light-headedness, depression, anxiety, low blood pressure, blurred vision and several others. Long term usage of this medication  can cause physical dependence. Since you are experiencing panic attacks, I would recommend that you consult your psychiatrist for further recommendations.
