Anger attacks?

Anger attacks?

Posted by Laura Barrios on June 16, 1999 at 10:15:02
I am a university student and I also work at the University as a part-time secretary.  When I am working or studying I feel completely normal, almost relaxed, but, when I get home my anger appears and I get really anxious and nervous.  I bite my fingers (not my nails) until they get sored.  I don't have any sentimental problems, on the contrary, my boyfriend and I get on very well, we feel happy with each other and are planning to get married after finishing our studies.  I am very worried, because I cannot understand these "attacks".  I have thought about problems with my mother, but, despite of some little arguments, we are fine.
Please let me know what happens to me.
Best regards,
Laura

Dear Laura;
There are several psychiatric conditions that are characterized by anxiety such as depression, panic, phobias, etc.  I wish I had more information about other symptoms that accompany the "anger and anxiety" that you feel when you do get home. What I would advice you is to monitor your symptoms and if other symptoms develop such as losing interest in activities, feeling depressed or anxiety attacks, a consultation with a mental health practitioner might be beneficial.  There are medications and psychotherapy available for anxiety and depression.
