Broken neck

I broke my C1 2 weeks ago, the break was half of the horseshoe, on my right side it was broken crossways, I am in a hard collar and the doctor didnt give me hardly any information at all, Im afraid to even sneeze, after recieving a blow to the head I still walked all around, even moved my head back and forth trying to pop my neck, had no idea it was broke. I am extremely careful and will remain so, I am wanting to know the seriousness and if this collar is normal treatment. Also it has healed some I hope Im telling myself everyday it gets stronger, this is true I hope.
Thank you very much for any information.

Sorry, you asked the wrong person...I am a psychiatrist and do not treat neurosurgical problems....go back to your doctor for specific advice or use one of the other forums here..sorry.

Hi.  I have limited knowledge regarding bone fractures.

I expect you must be feeling extremely frightened.  I would push your doctor for more information.  I expect this information could be vital for your care.

I would think the collar, or more intensive measures, are appropriate.
The collar will help stabilize your neck while giving other supporting structures time to heal and strengthen.

Rest helps our bodies recover.  I expect we do heal a little each day but it takes time before these changes become obvious.

This is the mental health forum.  I expect you would find more expert advice/ support on a different forum.  Perhaps you could scroll down the expert forums and see which one you think is most appropriate for your situation.

Take care.  And please leave the collar on until you get more expert advice.  Perhaps even try your doctor again.
