Cymbalta

I know that Cymbalta is prescribed for depression but is it also good for anxiety? and why?

This medication is for major depression, and there are no current studies for effectiveness beyond five weeks.  It is not an authorized medication for anxiety, although your doctor can, in his judgement, prescribe it for that purpose.

There are hundreds of studies that have been done on Cymbalta. A search on PubMed indicates the first clinical trial was done in 1197.  It was approved by the FDA in 2004 and there have been MANY longterm studies. Moreover, there have been numerous studies that conclude significant improvement for anxiety.

Have a look.

In May 2006, Eli Lilly submitted Cymbalta to the FDA as treatment for generalized anxiety disorder.
