Dear Jean
From the brief information that is provided, it seems you may be suffering from  depression. Major depressive disorder is a common disorder with a life time prevalence of about 15 percent. To diagnose a person with this disorder  a two week period during which either a depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure should be present. In addition ,changes in weight, sleep and appetite, fatigue,  loss of energy, feelings of worthlessness, diminished ability to think and even thoughts of death may be present. These symptoms   cause significant impairment in social and occupational functioning. A person, when feeling depressed, can get easily irritable or angry. At present there are several treatments available that can cure depression (medications as well as psychotherapy).
A thorough evaluation by your primary care physician and a mental health professional would be helpful for your diagnosis. If you need to schedule an appointment at Henry Ford Hospital, you may call 248-689-7476. This information is provided for educational purposes only and should not replace the evaluation by a physician.
