Depression and PMS

I suffer from a debilitating depression each month due to PMS.  However, things were going better with the natural supplements my doctor gave me (including Evening Primrose Oil).  I was so happy last month when my estrogen levels had risen.  However, I have had a bad relapse this month.  I was wondering if you might have some other natural rememdies I could try before I try meds.  Since I have had some good luck I feel like maybe if I knew of some other things to try then maybe I can pull myself through some of the bad months.  Thanks so much, Orla

PMS is a very real and debilitating thing to deal with. But you are on the right track by considering natural supplements. Diet has been proven to almost eliminate symptoms of PMS. People that adhere to a low-fat vegetarian diet report a great reduction in the symptoms of PMS. Eliminating coffee, sugar, most meat, alcohol and dairy are the most helpful. There is a diet plan called The Body Ecology Diet that could give you some specific guidelines. They have a comprehensive website or you can order their book. Try experimenting with this type of diet for 3 months before considering medication. And continue to get emotional support along the way.

Thanks so much for the advise.  I plan to look into that diet and book that was recommended.  I had not heard about eating and PMS.  My doctor has encourage me to exercise regularly as that can help with the depression.  So I am planning to make those changes with my diet and to increase my walking exercise.  I appreciate the advise about emotional support because when I have crying spells (even at work)  people do not always understand.  They think you are offended easily or something is wrong that you got so upset over a simple thing.  I plan to look into couseling.  Thanks again, Orla
