Dysthymia and anxiety question

I am a 33 y.o. F diagnosed with dysthymia and GAD. I am taking Lexapro (this is my second time to take it). I am also a student under stress and have a husband who creates new stress for me. I am tired all the time and have little motivation for school work. I am passing but not by much. Could my lack of motivation, fatigue, and constant hunger be from the lexapro? I have taken it before and did not feel like this. My husband is also taking it and doesn't feel like me. I haven't been working due to so much school work and stress that goes with it. I also made the mistake and looked at the DSM-IV and found that many people with dysthymia also have a personality disorder. Unfortunately I meet much of the criteria (more in the past) for a personality disorder. My therapist wants me to take more Lexapro 20mg or switch to Cymbalta. Is this really wise in the middle of a semester? I am a student and Cymbalta is expensive. I also feel like I am gaining weight, but I am eating everything. I don't know if this is from the school stress and everything else in my life or if it has to do with the Lexapro. Sometimes I wonder if I should just give up! I also have a Dr. phobia. I probably have some other health problems that could be causing some of this. Just can't talk about. My therapist just move into a big office with lots of people and big crowded waiting room so I hate going but I don't want to change. After 6 years I think I would have come farther than this.

Thanks for the answer.

It sounds like your doctor is right, the Lexapro is not doing enough for you and either you switch medications or increase your dose.  The best treatment is still to sort out in your mind all that is going on, and begin to take charge of the many problems you describe. These problems, plus the stress of school, become you life load, and that is depressing as long as you are feeling powerless about it.
