Epilepsy cause of Compulsive Lieing ?

Epilepsy cause of Compulsive Lieing ?

My daughter is 21. She has epilepsy since about 15 months.  Has been on Tegratol.  She only has a seizure about once every couple of years.  She has been telling lies and making up storys.  Telling us what she thinks we want to hear. And making up things that supposedly happened to her.  She is a smart girl and seems to be able to hold a job ok.  This seemed to have started after she got married.  She says she tells lies to keep her husband happy...and for attention. She has left her husband and has moved back home. He also tells lies, and is always on her to make more money. I am wondering if being on Tegratol for so many years has any effect on reality for her. Or if it could be just stress related. She is overweight and has a sister that is not overweight that she is very jealous of. She also says that we do not give her as much attention as we give her younger sister.  She seems to try to put the blame on us for her problems.  She has started counseling.  But I am not sure what kind of counseling she needs.  Do you think we are on the right track.  I would like to know what to do to help her.  Thank you for any help you can give me.

What you describe seems unrelated to either the epilepsy or the Tegretal.  Counseling is the right program for your daughter and what you can do is to promote and support her going to counseling on a regular and frequent basis.  You have to make sure that the counselor is well trained and has a good reputation. You may be able to do that through your family doctor or through your religious counselor.

This is a matter of maturing and personal development.

My daughter has low tempral seizures and is on Depakote. she to has a terrible time w/ not telling the truth and very jealous of her older sister. We have been dealing with this for over 5 years and I am beginning to realize that there is little we can do for her. She is now 19 and currently is not taking her medication and doesn't seem to want to help herself. I believe that counseling is very helpful if you find the right therapist. Good luck to you and you daughter.
