My doctor just changed my diagnosis from bipolar II to bipolar I (current episode manic, moderate). I don't feel any different this time than the times he's described the episode as hypomanic. I've been seeing him for a long time, so we've been through this before. What criteria do you use to decide whether someone's hypomanic or manic, if there's no psychosis or really deviant behavior, no serious life disruptions, and no loss of friendships? Thanks for reading this. :)

Yikes,

This issue has been discussed several times already in this forum and I suggest that you search the archives for further information.  In general the difference is the level of impairment(greater in mania) leading to marked dysfunction.

Sincerely,

HFHS MD-JM
