Getting off xanax

I want to know the best way to get of xanax. I have been on xanax 0.25 first twice a day,now 3 times a day. I have been tried on several antidepressant which make me worse, one doctor says I am alleric to the seritonins. I am on flexeril and Neurotin so I sleep well at night. I just don't like being on a narcotic , which I have to always be sure I have enough when we go on a trip, since I can only get a script once a month.
I just was told by a female doctor, who I was finally sent too that my problem is hormones. She recommended diet changes, and postive thinking, and exercise. And to slowlt wean my self off the xanax. What if ant herb might help me achieve this. Dottie65

Please use Dr. Ashton's manual that is on line. It has exact prescribed withdrawal schedules. Please do it that way or you will be in serious trouble. I'm sorry Dr. Gould but your recommendation is too fast. Mr. Dr. was doing the three week thing to people and had numerous problems with them and had to hospitalize some of them. I showed her the Ashton manual and now she uses it with great success. She is so thankful I introduced her to it.

Herbs are just medications with weak or unknown quantities of active ingredients, so if you want to be off medications, don't start herbs as medications.  You should wean over a three week period...the first week, cut down to once a day; the second week, once every two days; the third week, once every third day.  That should do it, and your neurotin should protect you against seizure withdrawal.

I thank you for your comment. I was prescribed xanax by my doctor to reverse the side effects I was having from Celexa 5 years ago. I never felt high only normal and peaceful, renewed energy for a good 6 or more months, however the doctor kept trying antidepressant, these I can not take. I have been tried on many. Now my body is use to xanax and being a nurse I don't like being on a narcotic. However every doctor I have been too as well as herb people just want to add another pill. So thanks for your advice. I disagree with Dr Gould as well. I could never come off it that fast. I know my body too well. I will look up Dr. Ashton's Manual. Thanks again Dottie65

I really don't think I can come off it that fast. Since I have been on it so long. I was thinking about going down a 1/4 of a tablet at a time. My gyn doctor feels it is hormonal
and I am having tests down next week. My hormones are very far out of wack. She has told me to cut back on carbs, breads and pastas and eat more fruits, vegetables and protein. I wish I could go off it that fast. I was originally prescribed it to counteract my
reaction to Celexa. I felt normal for like my old self for about 7 months, then my husband developed crohn's. The doctor's would not listen to me (although I am an retired RN) I knew the signs and I knew it was either ulcertive colitis, crohn's or diverticulitus. I nearly lost him until finally I insisted on hospitalization and the gastroenteroligist was called in.
I nursed him, then adjusted my diet to his. Which was wrong I know now. The doctor kept throwing antidepressants at me with reactions any time.
Thanks for your suggestion. I least know that that if I really try I can back off this and make it and be free of it. Dottie65
