Heart disorder-prozac?

Heart disorder-prozac?

I am 38 years old and have been been in and out of medical testing for almost 2 year for irregular heart beats and disorientation (MRI, EPS, heart Monitor etc) and they say I have Supra verticular tacycardia and Mitra Valve Prolapse.  My symtoms (symptoms) happens mostly when I am sleeping (disoriented upon rising) and is always worst right before my period. There was thought it could be Lyme disease but test never came back positive. One Dr has prescibed prozac to see if that might help as she could not treat me with hormones (they made thing worse)and now the irregular heart beats happen during at day instead of during the night? Has anyone ever heard of this kind of disorder? Has Prozac helped? I am tired!

There are many medications for irregular heart beats. Ask your cardiologist about beta blockers. Prozac would not be a medication I would think of in this case, but maybe there are other circumstances that point to prozac.

Hi,

I have LOTS of irregular heartbeats, when I wore a holter moniter it caught 5000+ in one day.  I have PVCs - premature ventricular contractions.  They are very uncomfortable, but won't kill me.  I have learned to live with them.  I took a beta blocker for a while - Inderal - which did help reduce the PVCs.  I do know that the irregular beats were so damn scary I had near constant anxiety over them, I was on paxil for the anxiety, not the weird beats, though.

After a while, the side effects of the meds were too much and I went off both.  I have since learned to not panic over the weird heartbeats.  I stopped smoking, drinking and caffeine consumption, all of this helped.  I exercise daiy which helped reduce the anxiety and the extra heartbeats.  Take a look at the heart forum on this site, you'll find lots of people with your condition and lots of tips on how to deal.

Good luck to you!

Christine

I HAVE HAD SIMILAR SYMTPTOMS SINCE I HAD MY SON 8 YEARS AGO. I HAVE BEEN WORKED UP AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL TRIPS TO THE ER DURING AN ATTACK AND NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND. SELF CARE IS THE BEST REMEDY. AVOID ALCOHOL, CAFFEINE, SMOKING EXCESS SUGAR AND HEAVY MEALS BEFORE BEDTIME.  EXCERISE BY WALKING DAILY ALSO HELPS. WHEN AN ATTACK COMES TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND HOLD IT FOR A FEW SECONDS BUT DO NOT DO ANY ACTIVITY. HOPE THIS HELPS.
