Help with Lexapro

I have been taking 10 mg of Lexapro daily for a little over 2 years. I have always gotten samples from my Dr. due to the cost being so expensive. Recently my Dr.'s office was out of samples which I depended upon rightously... I received a phone call after 4 days of not having any Lexapro to let me know they had my samples. This was after horrible sweating, zaps of feeling brain shock, head aches and finally going on-line to see why I was feeling this way. Sure enough it was withdrawal.... I now have the medication but I really don't know if I even want to take it. I haven't had it in four days until today. I have taken one before I found out all of this information. I would like to come off of it. If I have not had it for this many days and have now taken 1 what do you recommend???? Bt the way, over time frame of 2+ years I have also gained 35-40 lbs. I do try to eat healthy, it doesn't matter.

Ready to be off Lexaprp

It is a good time to stop taking the medication if you are ready and it will certainly help you with your weight control.  Try taking one pill every other day for a week, then cut the pill and half can take half every third day and then stop.  You should not have any withdrawal symptoms on that schedule.

I think you should discuss medication with your doctor before deciding whether to stop it or not.
The doctor here does advise occasionally about an appropriate taper.  If you are going to stop then it is best to do it properly.
I have also read the doctor commenting on prozac being a good medication for minimal weight gain.

Have you received support (psychotherapy) for the issues you were being treated for?

Don't let Dr. Gould's schedule be a dictate to you.  Let your taper be as slow as you need, since you're not anyone else.
