I missed a dose of Effexor XR and felt sick

I had a change of shift and forgot to take my Effexor 150 XR and the next day I was so dizzy and I was nauseous that I was afraid to take it I stayed home from work and every thime I moved I got dizzy and it seemed to be getting worse.

When I didn't throw up that day I took the Effexor the next morning still feeling dizzy, slugish and such after a couple of hours all the symptoms went away.  

I've have since heard of somthing called "Brain Shivers" that sound like what I went through.

I've changed health plans and under the new one Effexor is non-formularly and I have had to failed two other SSRI such as Prozac and Celexa (both of which I've been on) and Mirtazapine.  I'm afraid that the if I have to stop Effexor suddenly just to take Mirtazapine I'll go through the nausea and dizziness again.  I have an appointment with the new Psychiatrist in a few days and would like to be as informed as possible.

although what you describe sounds a lot like a withdrawal symptoms I think you have to talk to your doctor about the possibility that it was something else.  You should not get withdrawal symptoms that quickly from a missing just one does  especially if it is extended release.

You suffered withdrawal from missing your Effexor dose.  This med should be tapered off of slowly, as should virtually all of these kind of meds.  Even tapering slowly you may suffer some withdrawal.  It's normal, though uncomfortable.  I don't know if there's a generic for Effexor, maybe the doc will know.

Yes, you can get withdrawal that quickly, and Effexor is notorious for it.  The fact taking a pill made them go away is the best evidence it was withdrawal.  By all means talk to your psychiatrist, but it sounds like a pretty common experience with anti-depressants to me.
