Intrusive thoughts

Intrusive thoughts

I have a neighbor who complains of intrusive thoughts regarding getting violent to others. it scares her and she does not know why she's been having those thoughts. she cant sleep at night and soes not want to be alone coz it gets worse. All she wants to do is party and chat with friends and exercise coz it relieves her from those thoughts and fears. She has slight hyperthyroidism, could that be a cause? if not what could it be? she also has to take sleeping pill at night coz she cant sleep due to her fear and nervousness with those intrusive thoughts.

I can understand your concerns about your neighbour. Her recurrent, intrusive and inappropriate thoughts may be obsessions which are seen in Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is treatable by a combination of medications and behavioral therapy. I am not aware of any association between OCD and hyperthyroidism. You may find it helpful to encourage your neighbour to seek evaluation by a mental health professional.
