Is "lack of controlling anger" a symptom of deppression?

Hi
My husband, a great, hardworking, person can get so angry when something doesn't go just right.  He doesn't verbally or physically hurt anyone, but just acts out of control such as slamming doors, swearing, etc... even in public.  His father has a terrible temper in times of stress.  Could this be a learned behavior?  If so why is it soooo hard for him to stop?  After doing a little research, I suggested Zoloft and it really seemed to work for him but he sufferred many adverse effects and had to withdraw.  He is now on Paxil, and it has been four weeks. Do you have any ideas or advice you can offer?  I love him and he agrees to try anything that can have a positive effect on this problem.   Thanks so much.  Karen

Dear Karen,
The are many signs and symptoms of depression.  Irritability, or lack of control is one of them. Other signs are disturbed sleep (too little or too much) appetite changes, depresssed mood, lack of motivation and energy, sense of worthlessness or hopelessness, and suicidal thoughts.  Immediate treatment is important. Fortunately your husband has started treatment.
