Lifetime of paxil

Lifetime of paxil

I was prescribed 20mg paxil for panic attacks and anxiety in January 2000.  I am still taking Paxil (although during the time i went down and then back down to 10mg.  Initially, paxil helped no end to my problems with panic attacks.  Recently, my symptoms have returned (although not quite so severe) and i am back onto 20mgs.  My doctor has talked that i may have to be on paxil for quite a time.  My worry is that my body will get used to paxil and will not work no more.  Does this happen, and if so, what would a doctor do instead?

thanks in advance.

There are other anti anxiety medications to use instead if that happens, and more being developed all the time.

Hi, I've been taking Paxil for a few years.  I started at 10mg and ended up at 40mg after I kept complainig to my psych about my Obsessive Compulsive thoughts.  Now I've been at 40mg for a good 2 years, and my Anxiety is horrible with my stressful college classes.
My internal med Dr. said maybe to have my psych increase the dose more, but I have sexual dysfunction and I don't want it to get worse. (My psych dr. says I'm too young to start switching to Luvox or anything).
My ? is: Does Claritan or another anti-histamine help with Anxiety Disorder? I just took it this past summer and had a great/ anxiety-free summer. (But then I wonder if the sunlight did that or if I could stay on the Paxil 40mg and use different anti-histamines after the Claritan looses its effect?)

I had some questions I posted 10/10/01 on the thread "Lifetime of Paxil" that were NOT responded to.
(Are they too tough?) Because my city does not have any psychiatry dr.'s or psychology dr.'s who can prescribe meds that are taking patients.  I am told that I am out of luck.  I found a brand new Dr. 35 minutes away (who my insurance doesn't cover), who'll take me on.  I'm skeptical to have a new Dr. with no insurance coverage. Now, what do I do?  I'm taking YOGA, working out and started Clariten again. HELP Dr. !!!!
