Marijuana and Seizures

Recently I smoked a small amount of marijuana.  I started feeling it right away, and it felt like a normal high, but it just kept going up and up to the point that I couldn't keep any thoughts straight at all and couldn't understand where I was or who I was with or what they were talking about.  I began to get nauseous and broke out in a cold sweat and laid my head down on my shoulder.

The next thing I knew I was laying on the ground and somebody was calling my name.  They said what happened was I started making a strange noise (they described it as "horror movie" noise, a low gurgling strangled sound in my throat that would rise in pitch every couple seconds) and my eyes were wide open.  Then my body went limp and I slammed my head against something metal as I slipped off my chair.  They grabbed me and laid me on the ground in the lateral position and called my name until I awoke about 30 seconds later.  I was only out for about a minute.  My eyes stayed open the entire time.

It felt to me that I had been asleep and dreaming for days and days.  I was terrified and thought I was dead and didn't think I would ever escape.  In my "dream" there were many strangers looking at me and whispering to each other about me.  I heard some saying "what is she doing here?  she doesn't belong here".  They all seemed really concerned and actually frightened of me.  That is what made me think I was dead.  I thought they were all ghosts.  I had never seen any of them before.

I would like to know what happened.  Does this sound like a seizure or panic attack?  I have asked a few people about it who have had seizures and they said they've never experienced or heard of anybody experiencing dreams during a seizure.  Is it possible (or even common) to dream during one?  I've done a bit of research but nothing I've found explains what happened.

Other people had much more of the drug than I did and they said they had a normal high.

Yes, that was a drug induced psychosis...at high levels marijuana becomes a hallucinagen. It was either laced or you were extremely sensitive to that particular brand of drug..they are all a little different...you should stay off entirely, very , very dangerous for you.

Strange. Have you smoked marijuana before without this happening? Any other medical conditions or are you on any medications? You're sure the marijuana wasn't laced with anything like PCP or cocaine? How old are you?

I am 20 years old.  No known medical conditions and no medications.

No, not sure if it was laced with anything.  Most likely that's the cause, mixed with being anxious at the time.

The very first time I smoked I had way too much (packed a cigarette and smoked it quickly...was almost done before it kicked in...very bad idea I found out) because I didn't know how much to have or anything.  That time was very bad.  I didn't pass out or have the same symptoms as this last time (I don't think...can't remember much).  All I remember is being very frightened, cold and hot were mixed up (sitting in the hot tub made me freezing, I have never felt that cold), and I had something like the trails you get when you eat shrooms.  I haven't done that, but that's the closest thing I've heard of to this.  It was like my mind was taking a snapshot everytime I opened my eyes, and the pictures were following each other around against a black background...so I was seeing several moments at one time.  Freaked me out.  Also, when I think back to it I remember being in my bedroom for about a week afterwards, digging through my stuff and crawling around like an animal.  I don't remember doing this, I remember watching myself doing this.  And I obviously wasn't in my room for a week, because my parents would have gone investigating.  So this must have been another dream like the one I had recently, which also seemed to last for days.

Both instances I was very nervous when I smoked. The pot could have been laced, but both times other people smoked the same stuff and had no bad reactions.  Maybe I am just unusually sensitive to the additional stuff?

I have had good highs before, with no anxiety or anything.  But they weren't that great.  I don't really think I'm a pot person.  In any case, I'm never going to touch the stuff again.  I am just very curious to see if anybody has had an experience like this or knows what happened to me.

Also, I forgot to put this in my original post:  I bit the side of my tongue during the recent episode, which I know is a telltale sign of seizures.

You could be describing drug induced psychosis.
You could also have bitten your tongue as you fell off your chair.
It doesn't sound like a typical seizure to me, but that doesn't mean it was not one.

It would be well advised to stay off all illicit drugs.

I had never heard of drug-induced psychosis.  It seems that was what happened.  Thank you, you were very helpful.  :)

What effects could there be on "second hand" pot smoking near a toddler?  Are seizures a possibility?
