Memory lapses , neuro-psych testing

For well over a year I have been experiencing memory loss and conginitve skills diminishing. I have seen 3 neurologist and my family practioner.Have had trembling in hands, trouble expressing the correct use of words, slurred speech, occasional blurred vision, aches and pain, headaches. Started with small pieces of memory being loss, until recently have had numerous episodes and longer periods of time missing. My family has observed this, as did my last neurologist, while examining me, heard the slow reaction time to questions and slurred speech. I was on dilantin, neurontin, klonipin (klonopin) and paxil.Neurologist ordered me off the meds...ALL meds and see what happens. I felt like I was outside my body, watching myself deteriorate. I couldn't sleep and have awful headaches so started the Paxil, 40mg. at night to sleep. Works wonders....even stopped symptoms of my Crohn's, which it had done in the past. I lost 34 pounds in six weeks but don't feel bad. My memory has slid back to the only forgetting on a small scale, but none the less forgetting important things. The neurologist has ordered Neuro-Psych testing to be done, but I am on State Medicaid and can't find anyone to do it. This has been getting worse since My children first discovered it two years ago. The tremors have stared again , which means two symptoms have already returned since I stopped the anti seizure meds. I am scared that all syptoms (symptoms) will return and I will end up in ER again . All MRIs, Spect Brain Scan and EEG appear normal.
Does anyone know of a place in Florida or a Foundation that helps with Neuro-psych testing? I am at my wits and and scared to death, not for my but the fact that my occupation is Daycare and I care for 3 young children. I drive very seldom but seem to know when I can and can't.
Can someone please suggest next steps...I feel that Neuro psych testing

Patty,

Its not clear what your condition is based on your history but, I agree that neurpsychiatric testing could be helpful with diagnosis and treatment.  Depression, dementia, and related neurological disorders such as stroke and seizure should all be considered.
Your neurologist and/or primary care physician should be able to facilitate a referral for you.  Most states and counties offer psychometric services for those who cannot afford it.
Hope this was helpful.  Keep in mind that this information is intended for educational purposes only.  Please see your personal physician for specific health concerns.

Sincerely,

HFHS MD-JM

Hi Patti, hang in there! The doctor will respond on your problems soon! It sounds like you have a lot of difficulties to deal with!

I have chronic fibromyalgia and this syndrome does have some of the symptoms you have presented. This is not to say, you have FB but it is something to look into in order to be more informed when talking to your doctors. I have memory lapses as well, chorea tremors, neurological symptoms, all relating apparently to CFM/CFS according to the doctors!  Although, some of my tests did come out positive such as MRI UBO's, ANA 1:80 speckled, hyperflexia with neuro, etc; I am at the point of accepting this and getting on with my life!  If more symptoms arise, I will deal with it at that time! I will be more aggressive but will it help?

Look up the Fibromyalgia Networks on the Web (www.myalgia.com/overview2.ht and Webmed/  www.fmnetnews.com (firbomyalgia/cfs network) Good luck and with the doctor's answer! I apologize for posting prior to the doctor! Lillibet
