Please don't go researching the serious mental illness category..you will scare yourself and get confused..you need to talk to a professional mental health counselor, either through your parents, your school or you doctor.  You can sort this out..some medication may help, but understanding is the key....

Well I am not a doctor so this would only be advice. I would try talking to your parent's or a school counselor about the way you feel. They are better able to ***** the situation since they see you on a regular basis. Also your pediatrician should be able to get you the help you need. You could try doing some research on the internet. Maybe start with schizophrenia or bipolar, anxiety disorders and even depression. See if the symptoms you are having fit into the symptoms described for each. I hope you find comfort soon.

Hey.! I'm currently trying to figure out whats going on with me too. Some of what U say sounds familiar. Mood swings , I would say are a very normal part of most 17 year olds life. I think it's very hard to even offer an opinion as such, with the information provided, on what it could be. It could be very normal for a teenager and just your anxiety about it that makes it worse. If it's effecting your relationships/life then you should be open with those you care about ( who care about you) and honest with the medical people that can really help you. Don't be embarrassed, you'll never be the FIRST PERSON with such issues by a long shot. All I would say is if it is something you are not able to manage that is becomming debilitating, please ask for professional help. Don't waste large chunks of your life battling alone with something you may feel is not right.

Another thought: Do you take any daily vitamins? It has been researched that vitamin B deficiency can cause schizophrenic like symptoms.
