Neurological effects...

Hi!

Is it really possible to get TD and HD, for example, from occasional methamphetamines and mdma use? I've read that various narcoleptic drugs can induce TD, for instance, but I haven't seen any good information/clinical studies about methamphetamines or mdma induced TD, HD or PD.I must stress that I'm not a 'heavy' or 'chronic' user. Please reply objectively, without the moral side. I have extensively studied some documents from emedicine.com, nida etc. These pages contain a lot of theory about risks but is there any clinical example?

Friendly,

Zour

Zour,

Amphetamines are central nervous system stimulants that involve the neurotransmitter dopamine.  Dopamine when dysregulated can cause abnormal movements;  dopamine is insufficient in Parkinsons disease and those taking antipsychotics that block these neuropathways.  I am not sure what HD and PD represent but TD(tardive dyskinesia) has not been associated with intermitent amphetamine use.  The psychostimulants such as Ritalin, Adderall (adderrall) and Dexedrine have been associated with the emergence of tic's in patients being treated with these agents.  I hope this was helpful.

Sincerely,

HFHS MD-JM
