OCD medication help

I have had two major episodes with OCD over the past 10 years.  The first time I was on Prozac which was wonderful.  It almost alleviated all of my OCD.  Well, unfortunately I thought I was okay to be off medication and weaned off of Prozac.  It was not because the medication was no longer working, I just weaned myself off of it.  I have pure "O" and my obessessive thinking is out of control.  Well with my recent episode I was prescribed Lexapro and it is only helping a little bit.  I started out with 10 mg for about four weeks then went up to 20 mg for about four weeks and am now on 30 mg for about a week.  My question is do I stay on Lexapro and hope for the best or do I wean myself from the Lexapro and go back to Prozac because I know how well it works?  With every increase in Lexapro my OCD gets worse for a couple weeks.  Please help me.  It is much appreciated!!!!---Chickie1

hi very new to this site, my girlfriend of two years had just been currently diagnosed with OCD. This was about two months ago. things were a bit rocky for a while. she described to me that she had terrable thoughts (as in harming ones) about me her mum and rabbit. three days ago she decided that having a boyfriend was not going to help her to get through this. even though i did everthing at the drop of a hat for her. i did everything to make sure she was happy and said i would suppot her no matter what. now she said she didnt want to break up, but felt she had to to get better. at the moment im so worried about her. she said she feels worse for upsetting me badly. ive called her a few times and she has called me but everytime it feels as though i am annoying her and she said she cant stand to hear me upset. ive decided to just try and give her space wich is so hard considering im so worried....is this what i should do...any help from others would be appreciated....

Hi, I am new to this site and am excited that I found it.  I have had OCD for quite some time and have been taking a combination of 150mg Effexor XR and 300mg Seroquel for about two years.  I have been doing fairly well, and with the help of the doctor, I have been weaning myself off the Seroquel.  I was doing great until my last dosage, and the anxiety and OCD all came back. My doctor suggested upping my Effexor XR dosage to 225mg.  I am having some serious insomnia and am curious how long I can expect this to last, and is Effexor XR really successful in helping the OCD.  Thank you so much!

I was on Effexor for OCD/Anxiety/Depression for about 3 years and finally, with my doctor's help weaned off completely.  I primarily had/have only the O of OCD.  I have been off for about a year and a half.  The first year was good - but the last 6 months have been pretty bad and getting worse.  My new psychiatrist has recommended Strattera for the OCD (I was also on Adderall at the same time as the Effexor for ADD).

I thought that Straterra was prescribed for ADD.  Has it been used successfully for OCD?  Another doctor recommended Celexa.  I have been resistant to go back on meds, because it was so hard to get off the Effexor, and I also did not care for the side effects while on it.  However, anythign seems better than what I am going through now.

Anafranil is considered the best drug for OCD, or just O, i have just O thinking, i'm not compulsive.Anafranil started working for me in the first day of use(may take a lot more time), it decreased almost all my anxiety and about my O thinking, while it was still present(but less often),  it has no impact one me, i really did care for the thinkings, and that is incredible.I just took it for two days, after some weeks it should get a lot better, but it's already amazing. The con is that you feel strange and slow but maybe it will change with time too.

I agree with you that prozac might be best since it worked so well in the past, but you should do this under a doctor's supervision rather than by yourself. Also, think about therapy along with medication. You have had ten more years of living experience since last time, and therapy might be even more helpful now.
