PMS AND ANTIDEPRESSENT

PMS AND ANTIDEPRESSENT

I've been taking Zoloft (50mg) for many years for severe pms. I am 39 years old. I am a mother of 2 who refuse to become a monster for a week every month. I've tried everything (vitamine B, special diet; no salt, no coffee, no chocolat, etc.) I've been to a pms clinic for more than 6 months in Montreal.  And the solution was to take an antidepressant. I've had pms for 10 years and I refuse to go on like this for an other 10 years and make my husband and children miserable. Even with the antidepressant I have pms and sometime severe pms. Besides that, I have (as per my medical report) a small anechoic mass lesion in the left ovary compatible with tiny follicular cyst on an ovary.
Now here is my question;
Is an ovariectomy could be my solution? I don't want anymore children.  I have menstruel **** every month. I don't want to take antidepressant all my life. I just want to be me again.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Gigi,your frustration is palpable and your drive for relief is admirable. The psychiatrists I have consulted about this do not have any direct experience. The best physicians to consult about your cyst would be an endocrinologist or a gynecologist who specializes in female endocrine function. You have to be careful.You don't want to consider an operation unless you are pretty sure it will cure the problem.

In the treatment history you have presented, you did not mention psychotherapy. If you can find an experienced therapist of the dynamic therapy approach, you may get some significant help. I have had some successes with this kind of a problem. It is worth a try.

Hope this helps.

Gigi, go to see a doctor who practices Alternative Medicine and ask him about Wilson's Syndrome.  I had the same situation you do and have finally been diagnosed properly--without the use of anti-depressants.  Find out what is causing the PMS and depression and other symptoms before you continue the anti-pressants.  My best wishes and love to you.
