PTSD after Midazolam

PTSD after Midazolam

3 years ago I was diagnosed with PTSD after repeated injections of Midazolam for a surgical minor procedure.  I have some questions about brain function.  7 mls of Versed within about 10 minutes was administered and although I retained memory (!) I experienced a profound and immediate personality change from an "in charge" type personality, to a completely docile and obedient patient.  I proceeded to actually help them with procedures which I had declined.  My gp diagnosed PTSD which has lasted for all these years.  I have been told by somebody in anesthesia, a CRNA who doesn't know me,  that I must have been mentally unstable beforehand with OCD?  Really.  Is this drug known to exacerbate or create mental problems?  It targets the Amydala which I have learned is responsible for the wierd PTSD type symptoms.  Previously I was very pragmatic non-panicky, analytical, etc.  Now I have these absurd panic attacks.  Could my brain have been damaged and how do I find out?  Could it be "lesions" in a particular area of the Amygdala that not only prevented me from getting the amnesia, but created these bad symptoms afterward?  I have had amnesia from head trauma as a child.  Did my brain reroute the memory formation so that the Midazolam failed to induce amnesia?  I am really worried about the future (Midazolam) if I need further surgeries.  I have a history of being very difficult to anesthetise and wake up, despite the fact that my brain is completely unaccustomed to drugs or alcohol of any kind.  I really really hate this out of control, unreasonable, irrational behavior in myself.  It is impervious to logic and I find this distressing.  What can I do?

this is a complicated problem and you need more diagnostic information to answer your questions...I suggest you get some psychoneurological testing first, and consult a very experienced neurologist after you get that testing, or better still, if you can find an md who is both a psychiatrist and a neurologist...there are some.
