Panic attacks and klonopin

Recently I have been experiencing a lot of panic.  I went out to eat with my dad at a restaurant we go to frequently and I started to sweat and shake, I went outside and then came back in to fight through it,  the the panic eventually passed.  I just started a job as a realtor and on 2 ocassions I have started to sweat, this was definitely due to anxiety/panic, it has happened to me many times in the past.

I had a script for 1mg of klonopin a day.  I usually take .5 in the am and if I need more later then I will take more.  Is there any suggestions you can offer.  Should I take the klonopin under my tongue, I have read this can be a quicker and more effective way of taking a benzo?  Should I take a bigger dose, my doctor doesn't really like to give more than 1mg of klonopin for some reason.

You have received excellent advice from user-name.  I would add that you have to be very careful with xanax, using it only occasionally.  Also, try 1 mg in the a.m. on  a regular basis for prevention if it does not make you too tired...if it does, then take it at night. You should also consider some therapy to understand and deal with the anxiety at its source.

Klonopin has a long half life.  After having a steady level in your bloodstream, Klonopin becomes effective.  It's main purpose is to PREVENT anxiety attacks from happening.

However, sometimes although you're taking the Klonopin, you will have an anxiety attack.  And for that, you need a fast acting benzo such as Xanax or Ativan.  These two are to be used "as needed."  You take it as soon as you feel like you're having a panic attack.  Placing these two under your tongue will make it work faster.

Klonopin during a panic attack doesn't help.

I hope this helps you.
