Paroxetine and weight gain

Basically I have started taking paroxetine at 10mg a day and have been on it for two weeks now (for panic disorder and anxiety).  My doctor wants to increase to 20mg soon, I have suffered from anorexia and bulimia for seven years and I am very worried that taking paroxetine is going to make me put on loads of weight.  I have read some peoples accounts of enormous weight gain and this worries me greatly.  I do not want to stop taking paroxetine if possible, but i do not want to put on weight either!  What are the chances that this will happen to me?

Hi nutta

I have been on paxil for two years.  I did put on weight, but i ate more!!! and did not exercise.  The paxil gives u such a sense of well being, that u end up laying around all day eating and not doing much! LOL.  If you keep your exercise up, and do not overeat, i'm sure u will not put on weight.

good luck,
Peggy

It does happen, but does not happen to everyone.  You should ask your doctor about the new sustained release Paxil because there is much less weight gain reported on that.
