Please Educate yourselves with LYME!!!

Posted by Tanya on August 17, 1999 at 13:00:34
I wrote a letter to the doctors about my anger control to be told I have a problem other then Lyme. I can't believe that a DR. can give a opinion or a answer when they are LYME illiterate. Maybe next time you can educate yourself and your staff before giving a answer you apparently no noiting about.
I have Lyme since 92 and that wouls answer how I would no more than Docs do. Lyme can be found in the brain in as little time as 24 hours after the bite. Also it has been found in the spinal fluid. So answer me how Lyme has noithin to do with the brain or phycological manafatations of the brain. I do not have a drug or alochol problems.
I have never had a problem with my brain. I was on the deans list in college. I have a degree in paralegal studies. Now I have problems spelling and writing. Also my EEG showed slowing in my brain. As if I had it before the 2nd bout with lyme I would have been having seisures. So DR. please tell me how you arivved at your answer of I need help?

Dear Tanya,
The Doctor did not say  that there is no link between Lyme disease and brain. He/ She stated that Lyme disease is a multi system disease that does not have any  significant psychiatric manifestations. Perhaps significant" is not the best word to use, as all symptoms  are significant to the person who has them. It was meant to say that although the central nervous system (CNS) can be affected, other bodily symptoms are more involved. It usually presents with neurological manifestations.  When the CNS is involved, patient may develop dementia and other mental status abnormalities. A comprehensive evaluation by a trained mental health professional in an office setting is needed to come to a conclusive diagnosis.
I would recommend that you seek a second opinion  as you have not felt any relief with Zoloft, Paxil. Controlling your anger seems to be a problem that needs to be addressed. Individual therapy/ group therapy/ anger management group would be worth considering. This information is provided for general educational purposes only and should not replace evaluation by a physician.
Key words: Lyme  disease, Anger Control
