I have been on paxil for 10 years,I was on 60mg daily. The paxil quit workin for me 6 months ago.My dr.put me on prozac and I wanted to commit suicide. Having young children I was scared to go back off the paxil again for the same reason. I recently read all the posts that have been written about paxil and I was scared as hell.My dr.wanted me to try effexor.I started slowly weaning myself off the paxil while takin the effexor.I started out with a bad migraine, was sick to my stomache, had just bad withdrawals from it.I am finally in my third week on the effexor and the 4th day off the paxil. My withdrawal symptoms are still there a little and my dr. is keepin me on the 75mg of eff.So far so good. I am having some problems with anxiety attacks and stuff, but as my effexor will go up in about a month, those should disappear. I just wanted to give hope to all who have been on this addictive drug paxil and want to get off.I have heard from so many that it should be taken off the market becuz of its withdrawal symptoms,I agree. I got alot of strength reading about others who had the same problems and I hope somone can read this and it will have the same affect. There is hope to get off this stuff.Just do it slowly!
Why is the doctor adding Prozac to your zoloft and xanax? Zoloft and xanax are usually used together for a while and then once the zoloft kicks in you should be able to stop xanax. What is your doctors saying?
Hi,I have suffered from Aniety for 7 years.Im on Zoloft and xanx, now my Docotr has add Prozac to my other medication,Im afraid to take Zoloft and Prozac together,Can anyone went though this give me some information.Thank you
Sammy.
I took Paxil for about 3.5 years, had two unsuccessful attempts to get off before finally getting off.
I hope that you are doing well. But if you aren't, know that it isn't uncommon even with conservative change schedules like you have. For some Paxil can be a very difficult drug to get off of. I bet you could find stories on other posts. I was motivated to get off it by the 40 lbs I gained on it and at that point, I had not yet accepted that I was a "lifer" on meds.
I got horrifically sick, even though my taper method was slow. The thing you are doing differently is that you are transitioning on to Prozac. I hope that makes the difference.
I had dizziness, nausea, listlessness and horrific headaches. There were usually two day increments a few days after cutting a dose that I could do nothing more than lay on the couch. Towards the end of the process, I threw up green stomach bile for the first time ever in my life.
Worst of all, my depression came back about a month after getting off of it. It took several months before getting back on a different med that worked for me and healthy. The med I took next was Prozac. It worked for a year until I had to switch again.
Best of luck and I pray that you will have a much easier time of it.
This is a very conservative careful switch, and since you are also covered by xanax, you should have no problem.
I've been going off tofranil and starting welbutrin. I'm going very, very slowly and so far everything is fine. I have xanex but have only taken a couple. The apprehension is worse than the reality. I'm sure you'll be fine.
