Psychotic

How does one know when something is real or not?  In talking with my doctor and therapist, I have learned some thoughts that I have are psychotic.  It is such a relief to know that sometimes and that the situation is not real.

I have other thoughts that I am thinking may be psychotic, it would be a great comfort for me to know that what I am thinking is not real.  I will not see my doctor or therapist for a while and would like some way of figuring it out.  It is not something that I can ask a friend this time.

I take Risperal which is great, but lately I have had this happen.

If you would answer my question for me I would be very grateful.

Thank you.

It would be difficult to differentiate real and unreal ideas or thoughts without the aid of your therapist and psychiatrist. These mental health professionals help you delineate reality from not. It is rarely helpful for psychosis to be treated with therapy alone. You had indicated that "Risperdal is great" but it sounds like the psychosis still persists sometimes. You may benefit from an increase in your meds to treat the psychosis effectively.

Hi
I too have had psychotic episodes.  I actually thought or wanted to think that my counselor was my mother!  I pursued her in this way, even after she terminated services with me.  I also had to take risperdal.  It DID work well for me.
You don't have to tell me, but what are these other thoughts you are having?  I could give you my opinion on whether the thoughts are psychotic or not.  Although, I am not a professional.  If I were you, I would call the counselor or even the psychiatrist, and ask them your question over the phone.

My email address is susan.***@****

Would you want to email me so I don't share it with the whole world?

Or would you put your email address down for me?

Thank you.  I would love someone to talk to about this that has actually experienced it!  I have several questions if you are up to it.

Susan, I tried twice to e-mail you at the address you gave above, but both times it was returned.  How about if you try e-mailing me this time!!
Hope to hear from you soon!
