In the last few days I have felt like I have had to take a deep breath all the time. I feel like I can't get enough air. Last night I woke up and had a huge panic attack. It was like I couldn't breath but I was actually breathing. I made myself get interested in something so I could calm down. I was fine after about 10 minutes. I have had panic attacks before but it was always like I was confused. Never not being able to breath. I guess what I am asking is, is this common in a panic attack or could it be something else? My life is VERY stressed! Thanks so much.

I too suffer from panic attacks.  Often one of the symptoms that I experience is a sense of choking or not getting enough oxygen.  I have found it beneficial to really concentrate on slow deep breaths in through the nose and exhaling thrhough the mouth.  I have read that sometimes during a panic attack one may actually stop breathing without even realizing it.  Of course, not breathing will really sends your body into a frenzy.  There are medications for panic.  I have used lorazepam and am now taking klonopin.  I like the klonopin better.  You might want to talk with your Dr. about getting some relief with meds.  Good Luck!

I would urge you guys to get this thing checked out properly. Two years ago I went to the ER twice with the same symptoms and was diagnosed with panic attacks. The third time I went to a different hospital and had an EKG and was rushed to the ICU with severe heart failure. I know this is very rare, but if it had been identified the first time I would probably not have the serious heart damage I now have to contend with.
