Risperdal and Accutane

Hi...few months ago I had this weird experiences, that I told you about in my previous post. I went to a psychiatrist and he is about to put me on Risperdal 3 mg a day for disorganized&psychotic thinking and false perceptions. The problem is that I've been taking Accutane 80 mg a day (and no Accutane did not cause my psychosis) for 2 months with amazing resuls since I have severe cystic acne. Both drugs are very powerful and with potential serious side effects. I was wondering if you know anything about drug interactions of Accutane and antispychotics taken together. Will that be a problem? Can side effects be intensified? Can one drug anulate or lessen the theraupetic effects of the other?

  Appreciate your help

Jerry

accutane is indeed a powerful drug.  if you are a female, i assume
that you signed the consent form that is outlined in the pdr.  if you are
of child bearing age you need to be on birth control meds or some other
anticontraceptive regime.
i am not aware of any reports of adverse reactions between these two
medications and i could not locate any references  showing that they are
metabolized by the same hepatic enzymes. hence i donot believe that they
would adversely affect their respective blood levels, and impair their
functioning.  it is possible that there could be some additive side effecs
such as fatigue or sedation, but overall i suspect that there would be
minimal excerberation of side effects. lastly there is a suggestion that
accutane may exacerbate depression or mania..if your psychosis is
part of a mood disorder, accutane can be given, but with caution.
