Should I see a psychiatrist?

I see a psychologist now.  He says I have borderline personality disorder.  He doesn't think I need meds though.  Sometimes I get out of touch with reality.  I feel that I need to hurt myself to let the bad out of my body.  I talk to a Brazilian spirit guide who gives me lots of signs and messages from the spirit world to do things that sometimes get me in trouble even though they make sense at the time.  I don't know what is going on with me.  I just wish I could think normal.  I've been Baker Acted three times within a year and a half.  I think about suicide all the time.  I have a gun and bullets...sometimes I put the loaded gun to my heart and pretend to shoot myself.  I cut myself too.  Do I need to see a psychiatrist too??  My psychologist says no.  He is aware of everything, i.e. me playing with the gun, cutting, & my spirituality.  I'm just wanting a different opinion here...

I think, and this is only my personal opinion, that you should request a new therapist (one with skill and experience in treating people with bpd).

I agree, that you should have a consultation with a psychiatrist.  (Hopefully you already have.  This is the first time I've read your post).

I can relate to the safety issues.  I've been in similar, yet different, situations.  I think that helps us feel in control.  While we may feel numb and don't care (at least not enough to stop, it is extremely dangerous.  We can act or rehearse, but it does probably lower our threshold and we can ?intentionally/ unintentionally kill ourselves.

Definitely see a new T -this one doesn't seem to understand and is not containing you (or you wouldn't be doing that).

I'm fairly open about spirituality.
In my country we have a program called Sensing Murder.  Mediums, clairvoyants, psychics (whatever you wish to call them) tune into energy/ signs from dead people and are often able to give police new leads in their homicide inquiries.
It is interesting how the program is put together and often the psychics appear to provide accurate information.
I can't comment on your spiritual guide.  I think if the guide is negative and asking you to behave in destructive ways ... it would be advisable to ... Your doctor would be in a better position to answer that question.

How do you pay attention to reality when you are (assuming you are) psychotic?
Are you asking the person to try and ground them-self?

Your psychologist may be quite competent but given your description, you should definetly see a psychiatrist and consider medication to help you get through this, and it will also help you work in therapy.  don't  hesistate, this is serious business.

I'm being told to cut myself in front of my psychologist too.  That scares me.

These are my three posts.  Thank you for stopping by.

My Brazilian spirit guide, Manny, is not in this world.  He is on the "other side".  Am I crazy or is he real?  He gives me lots of signs & messages.
