Sleepless Nights due to Stress (Sonata)

My doctor recently prescribed Sonata to help me sleep at night.  This is the first time I have received this medications.  Can you please tell me something about it.  I've taken Ambien in the past and all it does is keep me up all night.  Also is this medication safe to take with Xananx and trazadone.

Both Xanax and Trazodone should help you sleep. Adding Sonata is relatively safe if you are careful, but all three together is a strong cocktail...you may be looking for trouble. You might consider increasing the dose of Trazadone rather than adding another medication.

I don't have ADDD, but have found that Trazadone and Sonata, even taken separately, keep me totally awake.  Perhaps you need a more sedating sleep aid.  I am on chloral hydrate, a really old med, but it has no side effects for me and very few at all.  We've had to "play" with the dosage but it is also safe to continue more than a couple of weeks.  It is not an antidpressant but a hypnotic sleep aid.  It comes in a yukky syrup but I'll take this any night over these other meds which gave me no sleep at all and plenty of side effects.  Also took Ambien which gave me nausea and other problems and didn't work either.  Hope this helps.
