Stimulant Beta Blocker= Unopposed beta blockade?

Is it safe to take a beta blocker to counter the cardiovascular effects of stimulants such as methylphenidate?

I have read that this may lead to "unopposed beta blockade" where beta receptors only are blocked but alpha receptors are not and that this may actually lead to a dangerous increases in heart rate or blood pressure, chest pain... and so that a mixed adrenergic antagonist such as labetalol should be used in this situation.  Is this correct?  Thanks.

I am not a psychopharmacologist and am not qualified to answer this question in an expert way, but what you propose sounds right.  A cardiologist can answer this question better than I can.
