Stress??

Hello,  In the last year I have became more depressed then I ever could imagine, I'm 20 years old an sometimes feel like just giving up and have no care in the world. Its come to the point were I hate going out because I feel like i'm going to lose it and cause a scene. I believe this started because I have alot going on in my life right now, and sometimes feel like I can't take it. I usually overcome these feeling of Depression but as life goes on they always return and feel like there getting worse. My question to you guys is sometimes I feel like I can't breath, or i'm not taking in any oxygen but I'm really breathing fine,(because I don't pass out or gasp for air) but the feeling is so strong. Also sometimes when I get myself all worked up about something I feel a pins and needles feeling starting with my ears  traveling down to my fingers (no numbness)which passes once I relax or calm down. Do you think this is caused by depression or anexity, or do you think I need an MRI or something. Every one tells me its just stress or anexity and it will pass once I get my problems worked out, what do you think, thank you.

Dear Dave,
Anxiety Disorders and Depression are the most common psychiatric disorders.
Your symptoms are suggestive of Panic Attacks, discrete periods of fear or
discomfort with characteristic symptoms that develope abruptly and
reach a peak within 10 minutes.
The characteristic symptoms of Panic Attack are pounding heart rate,
sweating, trembling, sensation of shortness of breath, chest pain,
nausea, dizziness, fear of losing control and fear of dying.
Depression is characterized as depressed mood, low self esteem, poor concentration, changes in appetite and in severe cases suicidal ideation. Depression may be secondary to the attacks or may worsen the attacks,
especially if panic attacks create social discomfort.
MRI would not aid in the diagnosis.
I recommend an evaluation by a psychiatrist, as treatment in the form of medication and therapy is available. If you are in the Detroit area you may contact HFHS 313-874-6680 for an appointment.
