Switching from pill form to liquid form for Paxil

I have been on the pill form of Paroxetine for over 10 years now and would like to wean off slowly 2-4mgs. at a time using the liquid form.  Is it safe? I read in a book on how to get off Paxil that one should not switch. What could be the cons to switching to the liquid form?

There should not be any difference between pill and liquid...only the speed of absorption...the main issue is blood level changes over time, and that will happen as you taper off, with either liquid or pill.

Usually the liquid form is used toward the end of your taper, but who knows?  My question is if you're doing this with a psychiatrist who understands these meds -- and most don't, you have to grill them ahead of time -- who can monitor your taper?  A book I read called The Anti-Depressant Solution by Joseph Glanville discusses this issue -- he likes the idea of the liquid for those who have a hard time coming off, but again, I think it's usually used after you've already tapered down a good bit and are experiencing problems -- which is likely given the length of time you've been on Paxil, but will be unique to you.  You might just swim right through it, you know?

Thanks! I will ask my doctor about it. I may just have it compounded into pill form.

Remember, the only reason to use the liquid is to alter the pace of the taper.  It allows for a slower taper, which is why it's usually used at the end of the taper if you're still having major problems.

I think I've had serotonin syndrome 2 x back to back with paxil withdrawls. I'm new at this site and not sure if I'm posting in the right place. I wanted to get your opinion because I am just a wreck. It all started 17 yrs ago was placed on paxil for panick attacks and it seemed to work well. I eventually around a yr ago weaned myself down from 60 to 12.5 mg it was all fine. Recently I had a lot of stress in my life and it hit me hard panick and non stop outta control anxiety wouldn't stop. I went to my psy. Who I saw 17 yrs ago and he suggested we switch to lexapro so I did the crossover and the next night felt horrible. I called him crying he said u are having discontinuation symptoms. I then told him I want to go back on the paxil and up it because I was not on enough and I can't take this. So he told me ok. Went back on it and the next day felt a little better. Then as the week went by started getting bad again. Then he upped it and that seemed to make it worse and the following week upped it again and I nearly lost it.non stop panick attacks, severe heart and chest pain, heart palputations, body jerks, sound sensitivity that makes me jump, trouble breathing,Head spinning, fogginess, deleria, nitemares, insomnia, head and body burning like it was on fire, then chills and shivering. I felt as if I were coming off of heroin or something. I called my doc again he didnt even sound concerned he asked me what i wanted to do? i said i want off the paxil because i felt my body was having an adverse reaction to the paxil. Now its been 2wks I've been off the paxil and I did the conversion of lexapro 10 mg as I was weaning from. Paxil 25mg cr. I've had the most horrible time and still am. I am nopt sure if lexapro was giving me bad side affects or again if it was serotonin syndrome at 20mg I have newer symptoms with all of the others as well. Feels like my kidneys are shutting down and having a heart attack, getting weaker and weaker everyday, and anxiety seems to rev up like it will never stop. Can my adrenals be on stuck mode? Having to take xanax and I hate pills but I don't have any other choice right now. Again it could be serotonin syndrome or withdrawls from paxil and or lexapro not agreeing with me. Do u have any suggestions at all? I'm at e r right now ruling out serotonin syndrome hopefully they can check. My heart to see if its ok, and kidney functions.
I feel like I literally can't take another day of this. Nerves are so shot can't function. I'm scared of everything. Not sure if I will ever get better.

Dr. Gould doesn't check threads twice.  You'll have to post it as a new question.
