Sympathectomy side effects

Sympathectomy side effects

My boryfriend had a sympathectomy last jan in which 3 neerves were cauterized bilaterally.  he has since then had extremely distressing compensatory sweating on his back, chest and lower body. It is dibilitating physically and emotionally.  Is there any way to help the peripheral nerves regenerate? We know it's a long shot, but he does NOT want to try any medication for the sweat.  His head gets very hot because he no longer sweats there, so he wants to restore some function.  I know some people are working on neurotropic drugs that stimulate peripheral nerve regeneration. Is there any way to get into a clinical trial?  How about elctromagnetic therapy? We are desperate for help because he is more miserable now and regrets having the surgery completely.
Thank you for your help.

Erin,

I apologise for the delay in replying your question. The response to the forum has been great, and we sometimes have to research answers to complicated questions. I am sorry to hear that your boyfriend is going through so much physical and emotional distress. A neurologist or neurosurgeon would better answer your questions. I am not aware of the clincal trials that you refer to. I urge you to discuss your concerns further with your boyfriend's physicians, with his permission.
