The Nature of Anxiety

Dear Forum:  As a sufferer of anxiety disorder, I have read and researched the topic thoroughly.  However, most of what I read has to do with treatment, medications, etc.  I am curious as to why some of us are afflicted with anxiety disorder, which is certainly a life-changing problem.  Are we born this way, raised this way, is it our brain chemicals personalities, lifestyles or hormones?  Why us and not others?  Thank you for this intelligent and thoughtful site.

I can tell you my opinion. It is almost always a combination of factors. Everyone has anxiety...some people are more responsive, and that is genetic wiring of the nervous system that is reenforced by experiences that are  incompletely processed.  That is, if you are anxious to begin with, you are afraid to open up your mind completely for fear you will become more anxious.  Now you are sitting on a powder keg.

Then current events come up. Problems, disappointment, changes etc are always being processed and require an open mind. If something is brewing within you, and it is not processed, you will have anxiety symptoms. They come and go, not necessarily ties to external events, but always tied to the invisible process within you...an internal diaglogue in which symptoms are messengers.

Enough said, this is why my masteringstress program focuses on current problems and actions...that forces the processing by an open mind..and that brings relief from anxiety.
